Rocks & Minerals
Bill and Cheryl Harrison
Cheryl Harrison is the owner of this new endeavor. Bill Harrison is her partner in acquisitions.
Cheryl’s mom’s family made their livings in southern Colorado as coal miners. While growing up on a family farm in Illinois, she innocently became a “rock hound” by collecting fossils along the banks of Mud Creek. Christine Cleburn from the University of Illinois helped the 10-year old learn about those fossils and the crinoids found in the McDowell Quarry. She was hooked. Cheryl and Bill married in 1976. They have three sons who set high standards for themselves in the rock hobby. All three have won American Federation trophies in mineral or fossil collecting.
Bill has forty years as a professional mining engineer in the hard rock mining industry. Bill’s interest in mineral collecting started in 1970 during a high school geology class. An interval at the Colorado School of Mines solidified his interest. He has been collecting throughout the United States ever since. Bill won several awards for his mineral and lapidary work in federation shows before Cheryl came into his life. He has served thirty-five years as a volunteer on the Denver Area Gem & Mineral Show committee and is a two time past Show Chairman. He’s since retired from it.
They have come full circle now and believe it’s time to let others share in and enjoy the material that they have found or collected over the years.
