Beautiful cluster of transparent BARITE crystals from the classic location of Meikle Mine, Elko, County, Nevada. Root beer color. Adamantine luster. The largest crystal is 1.25 inches wide.

The MEIKLE MINE is the largest active underground mine in North America. It is an active Gold mine owned by the Barrick Gold Corporation. The site was mined for mercury (from cinnabar) in the 1930’s. Gold was discovered in 1989 from a core hole drilled on the site. In the underground workings of the current mine, huge cavities and vugs were found to be lined with collector-quality Barite and Calcite crystals.
