Bridging the gap between minerals and fossils is this combination piece featuring a Baculite yokohami that was replaced by Pyrite, Baculites are marine animals related to squid permeating low-oxygen mud on the ocean floor, where decaying organic matter ( the Baculites) provided the Sulfur and the reducing conditions necessary to cause Iron Sulfides to precipitate. The specimen is from State Bridge, Eagle County, Colorado and the size is 11 x 6 x 4 cm, the Baculites measures 8.5 cm long, with 2 cm being exposed and the remaining of it being covered by Pyrite balls, the largest Pyrite group measures 1.5 cm across. It has two repairs, it is almost impossible to collect these and exposed them without some get loose from the matrix. This unusual mineral & fossil specimen is a fine and showy display piece.        Â
BRAZARTE, worldwide fine minerals specimens since 1998.
