GOLD is a native element and precious metal. It occurs in three main types of deposits: in hydrothermal quartz veins in igneous and metamorphic rocks; in volcanic-exhalative sulfide deposits; and, in placer deposits. Gold belongs to the Isometric crystal system. Hardness is 2.5 – 3 on the Mohs scale.Â
